CHOOSING A REAL ESTATE AGENT

I confess that I'm not a particularly good judge of character. I assume that people are decent until proven otherwise. I just don't have good intiution when it comes to chosing service providers. But in this case, Susan and I made the right choice of real estate agents.

We did our homework and interviewed a number of local folk. One was so young, I couldn't bring myself to put my life in his hands even though he was very enthusiastic and a good communicator. Another was too pushy for my liking - paint the outside, get rid of the water tanks so blokes can put their cars in the shed, etc. He was of the 'do what I tell you and don't ask questions' variety. Finally we chose Cody from Nelson Alexander. He'd sold a friend's mothers house and seemed to know every street and most of the occupants in the neighbourhood. He came with a sidekick, and it was Matt that was the turning point.

When Matt had his first visit to the Pink House he spotted some photos on the wall and went "That's Sebastian. I was in the school orchestra with him. He was great. What's he up to?" So instant points for memory, taste and curiousity. He'd been a sporty person as well as a musician, working on snow fields in Australia and Canada but after an accident, decided on real estate as his new career. A genuinely nice young man who hugged us every time he saw us. I think he saw us as 'aunties'.

Like Cody, Matt lived in the neighbourhood and loved it. He'd even started to save up to buy in Pascoe Vale South. We knew that with both of them, their enthusiasm about the neighbourhood - and hopefully, the Pink House - was real and that we'd be in good hands.
